NETWORK OPTIMIZATION

A national mortgage firm had a mixed-topology local area network (LAN) environment of Token-Ring and Ethernet with increasing complexity and instability. S & L upgraded the client’s LAN to gigabit fiber connections, and implemented a fault-tolerant Cisco-based switched environment for all servers and desktops. The solution can be upgraded to meet future voice-over-IP telephony requirements. This project significantly improved network performance on the LAN, increased network stability, simplified administration, decreased the time needed to perform tape backups, and provided ample room to accommodate the organization’s growth.

LONG-TERM MAINTENANCE

A venture capital firm engaged S & L to provide long-term maintenance on their LAN/WAN environment. Under this contract, S&L provides services at scheduled intervals and 24x7 ad-hoc support as needed. This program delivers helpdesk support to end users, as well as maintenance of the network infrastructure. In addition, we collaborate with the client on various implementations to keep their business operating at an optimal level.

NETWORK AUDIT

S&L performed a network audit for a legal firm to identify trouble spots and network bottlenecks. A network performance station was implemented to continuously monitor the client’s network utilization. In addition, we worked with key personnel to validate the network design and overall functionality of the LAN/WAN environment. S&L determined there was no need to upgrade the edge switches; the client simply needed to make a few adjustments to the existing equipment. As a result, the company saved thousands of dollars and significantly improved the performance of their network.

WINDOWS SERVER 2003 MIGRATION & VPN IMPLEMENTATION

A financial services firm engaged S & L to implement a new physical network in their Los Angeles and London offices. A new Windows 2003 domain was created using Active Directory. New Windows 2003 workstation images were created for the clients’ offices. All existing user data was migrated to the new domain, and security settings were applied. A VPN solution was implemented to allow encrypted wide area network communication over the Internet between the Los Angeles and London offices. The VPN solution also provided remote user connectivity.

FIREWALL/VPN IMPLEMENTATION

A national law firm engaged S & L to architect and implement a secure and cost-effective solution to connect a remote San Diego office to the production wide area network (WAN). In addition, we were required to improve web traffic performance for West Coast users. We installed a firewall in the LA Office which included VPN support and dedicated Internet access. This solution improved the performance of the applications for remote users while maintaining the highest level of security. All West Coast users have a dedicated connection to the Internet and only critical application data travels over their WAN. We achieved the client’s business goals of increasing productivity while meeting stringent deadlines for completion of the work.
